Best Breastfeeding Products
I was recently reflecting on the fact that it’s been a year since I stopped nursing my second baby. Some days I really miss it (when I think about it through my rose-coloured glasses and forget about the struggles). I wanted to share some of my favourite products that might make your breastfeeding journey a bit smoother.
Silverette Nursing Cups — they protect the nipples between feeds/pumps and help them heal. Silver is a natural antimicrobial, anti fungal and antibaterical metal (as stated on their website)
Nursing Pillow — I loved my Boppy nursing pillow that I used with my second baby. With my first baby, I often used my pregnancy pillow or random household pillows. Both were great options, but I prefer the shape and support of a breastfeeding pillow.
Matter Company Substance Nipple Cream — it’s very gentle and soothing! I tried many brands and never liked any as much as this one. Some of them were so sticky and would stain my clothes (ahem, Lansinoh Lanolin cream).
Haakaa Pump — this magical milk catcher was a life savour in the early days when my let down was aggressive. Before I got this, I would end up with a soaked shirt or bed sheets after a feed. The haakaa suctions onto the breast that is not nursing or pumping, and catches all the liquid gold from the let down. I would then pour that milk into a bottle or breastmilk bag to store in the frigde or freezer.
Bravado Nursing Bra — I loved this one (specifically the grey one because it felt the softest to me). I actually started wearing it in my third trimester, and for a few months after I stopped nursing because it was so comfortable!
Motherslove More Milk Plus — this supplement is created with a blend of galactagogue herbs to encourage milk production. There are lots of great products out there made made from the same herbs, but one worked well for me!
I didn’t include a breast pump because I loathed pumping and my body didn’t respond very well to it. However, the one I used was the Medela Pump In Style. It really is a great pump and I believe I was the issue and not it!
